Oxford academics honoured by The Queen

Two Oxford academics have been recognised in The Queen's Birthday Honours List.

In the list of honours released on 16 June 2012, Emeritus Professor Lorna Casselton was made a CBE while Professor Ann Buchanan became an MBE.

Lorna Casselton, Emeritus Professor of Fungal Genetics in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford, and Honorary Fellow of St Hilda's College, is made a CBE for her services to research, and for her role as vice-president of the Royal Society. Professor Casselton researches sexual development in fungi, and is distinguished for her genetic and molecular analysis of the mushroom Coprinus cinereus. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999 and became Foreign Secretary and Vice-President in 2006. Professor Casselton has also taught at Royal Holloway College and Queen Mary, University of London.

Ann Buchanan, Director for the Oxford Centre for Research into Parenting and Children, as well as University Professor in Social Work and Fellow of St Hilda's College, is honoured for her contribution to social science research. Professor Buchanan’s research focuses on promoting well being in children especially children at risk of social exclusion. Previously she was Director of the Centre for Research into Parenting and Children.
