The Royal Society has elected two Oxford University academics as new Fellows.?
Professor Ian Walmsley was educated at Imperial College, London, and the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, New York. His research is in the areas of ultrafast optics and quantum optics, and he has published widely in these fields. He has led two academic programs in the USA and UK, most recently the Sub-Department of Atomic and Laser Physics. He is a Science Delegate for Oxford University Press and served on the Physics RAE panel in 2008. In 2009 Professor Walmsley became Oxford University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research.
Professor Dominic Joyce was educated at Merton College, Oxford. His research is in the areas of differential geometry, algebraic geometry, and symplectic geometry. From 1995 until 2006 he was a University Lecturer in Mathematics at Oxford, and Tutorial Fellow in Mathematics at Lincoln College. He held an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship from 2001 until 2006 when he became a professor in the Mathematical Institute. ?
